Corey Mann Senior Software Engineer. Backend, platform, and full stack. Chattanooga, TN | https://www.linkedin.com/in/comann2 | https://github.com/comann SUMMARY Corey Mann is a Senior Software Engineer with 14+ years at Variable, Inc., where he designs and builds the Go backend and client SDKs behind its color-matching products. He is the technical lead and architect for the cloud services used by Variable’s mobile apps and Variable Cloud, and works directly with partner teams on their integrations. EXPERIENCE Variable, Inc., 06/2012 – Present Senior Software Engineer, 2018–Present - Rebuilt color search as a new Go service for Variable’s mobile apps and Variable Cloud, handling about 20,000 requests per day. Led the 2026 migration off the earlier Elasticsearch-based version, cutting average production response time from 7 s to 0.5 s. How: I helped build the first color search on Elasticsearch in 2016. By the time it was replaced it averaged about 7 seconds per request in production. I designed the Go rewrite and led the 2026 move of mobile and Variable Cloud traffic onto it. The average is now about half a second. - Took Bridge by Variable from a B2B offering that needed technical integration on the corporate side to a commercially available, ready-to-use app, as technical lead and project manager. Completed in 2026. - Replaced AWS Route 53 traffic policies and DNS-based routing with a Cloudflare Workers routing layer, designed and built for staging and production. How: Routing used to live in DNS records and Route 53 traffic policies. Moving it into a Workers layer means staging and production routing is now defined in code instead of DNS configuration. - Wrote two dependency-free TypeScript SDKs (ESM + CJS): the color search client that defines the API contract for mobile and web, and the client for Bridge by Variable. - Built the Go color library service for Variable Cloud and the mobile apps. - Technical lead and architect on a four-person team of senior engineers. Turn product vision and strategic goals into technical plans and ship them, and work directly with partner and customer teams on integrations. Software Developer, 2013–2018 - Built the first Go services in 2016: mobile data sync and color downloading, which grew into the content packaging service that turns customer product catalogs into mobile-ready offline databases on AWS S3. Helped build the original color search on Elasticsearch. How: Most of Variable’s users work primarily offline, so the download service is how most of them get color data: it turns a customer’s product catalog into a database the app keeps on the device. Search and sync cover what needs a connection. - Built the central authentication and identity provider in 2017 that powers Variable services and applications. Lead maintainer since. - Built the Android and Windows color sensor SDKs used by third-party corporate developers. - Implemented Bluetooth Classic (2.1+) and Bluetooth Low Energy (4.1+, 5.0) connectivity for Variable’s color sensors, working from the hardware team’s designs to link each device feature to the app layer customers use. - Developed Android (Java) apps including Color Muse, 2012 to 2020. Android Developer Intern, 2012–2013 - Developed Android apps while completing a B.S. in Computer Science. Earlier: Transcard (Database Intern, 2011 to 2012), Tricycle (Database and Reporting Specialist, 2010 to 2011). EDUCATION University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. B.S. Computer Science, focus on information security. Graduated December 2013. SKILLS Languages: Go, TypeScript, JavaScript (Node.js), Python, Java Backend and platform: REST APIs, authentication, search services, data sync, Cloudflare Workers, AWS S3 Frontend and mobile: React, React Native, Next.js, Android Hardware communication: Bluetooth Classic (2.1+), Bluetooth Low Energy (4.1+, 5.0) Data: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, Elasticsearch Practices: system design, API contracts, SDK design, code review, technical leadership
